Days 27 - 32 / Aug. 25 - 30
Last Sunday 8/25, we drove from New Hazelton to Prince George. On the way there, we decided to stop for breakfast in Smithers. One of the worst experiences we’ve had with a meal - waited for over an hour to eat and breakfast wasn’t very good. When we got to Prince George, the hotel was very nice, except had the oddest feature. The bathroom wall on the other side of the shower was perfectly transparent and looked into the bedroom so of course you could see from the bedroom into the bathroom. Not sure what that was all about, but it was different! On Monday morning when we left, we stopped at a cute little place for breakfast where a homeless man who looked about 80 (he was probably 60) was sitting in the foyer and the waitresses were kind enough to give him some food and a cup of coffee. Then he got up and got the key to use the restroom about the same time I had to and he was having trouble unlocking the door so he asked for my help so I opened it for him. However, while I was fiddling with the lock, he couldn’t wait and peed all over the floor. That was a first for me. I felt so bad for him and I just went and let the waitress know that there was an accident in the hallway. Dave and I were talking about how blessed we were for the rest of the day. On Monday, we drove to Cache Creek for the night passing through Quesnell (pronounced KweNELL) and I wished we’d had time to stop and look around but chose to keep going. In Cache Creek, we stayed at the Bear’s Claw Lodge, had dinner at a great little taco place (and we had tacos the night before) then left Tuesday for the Vancouver area. We stayed in White Rock at a hotel right across the street from the beach. We were there for a couple days because I really wanted to go to Butchart Gardens. To go on Wednesday, we Ubered to the ferry, took an hour and a half boat ride to Vancouver Island, then a city bus to the gardens. It was incredibly gorgeous and I’m grateful I got to see them. Afterwards, we took the bus downtown and once again, ate at a Mexican restaurant. We Ubered back to the ferry, and went back to BC and Ubered to White Rick. Long day but so worth it. The last couple days of the trip were pretty uneventful because we were just interested in getting home. Left White Rock on Thursday morning and drove through Portland and Seattle and ended up in Eugene Oregon for the night. On Friday we just did a straight shot from Eugene home. It was an incredible trip and I’m glad we did it and I’m very grateful to be home! I plan on doing one more blog entry just for my own memories and doing a summary of the trip. But basically, we were gone 32 days drove almost 7500 miles and were in two countries and five states also, three provinces in Canada. Thanks for reading!
