Days 13, 14, 15, 16 / Aug. 11, 12, 13, 14
So after leaving Whitehorse, we continued on to Haines Junction just outside the Kluane National Park. The scenery continues to be spectacular but so far, we’ve seen very little in the way of wildlife… Dave said they took the month off because they heard we were coming. Stayed at a rather bedraggled motel with an even worse restaurant. We won’t be giving The Cozy Corner rave reviews on Yelp but I doubt they care π On Monday as we drove through Delta Junction, we completed the 1,390 miles of the AlCan Highway and then drove on to Tok, AK (pronounced like “toke” and yes, we made all the appropriate references π). It was a very quaint small town and we spent the night in a delightful little cabin at The Burnt Paw. We also finally had to do laundry at an RV park as we were running out of unmentionables. Left yesterday and drove through or past Sacha, North Pole and Fairbanks to get to Healy which is just outside Denali Park. Today, we drove the Denali Highway and went to the Visitor Center for the park. We continue to be blessed with good weather (although it’s a little chilly for me - mid 50’s to 60 during the day and low 40’s at night). It’s been somewhat cloudy with very occasional light rain but not enough to dampen our spirits π. We’ll leave tomorrow morning and head for Anchorage where we intend to stay for 3 whole days! We’ve been traveling for 16 days and gone about 3,600 miles so far.
The pictures are mixed up a little chronologically because we don’t have good cell service so I was adding them in small groups.
