Days 20 - 22 / Aug. 18, 19, 20

 On Sunday, we left Anchorage and drove south to Tok, crossing back into Canada. The weather was great that day but the last two have been cold and wet. In Tok, we stayed at a nice bed and breakfast. In the morning, we got to talking to the folks there and the owner is from Romania, another couple from Israel were spending 4 months in the US, and 3 more guests were German; quite the international group! Nights are getting down into the 30’s and it snowed on the mountains outside Haines Junction where we spent last night. This morning we drove to Whitehorse which only took a couple hours and hunkered down in the Sternwheeler again and relaxed out of the weather. Had a great dinner at Klondike Rib and Salmon and will be heading for Jade City tomorrow. We need to do a little grocery shopping on the way because they have lodging with kitchenettes but no restaurants. Should be quaint 😆

First Day 7/30/24

 Hi all, Well, we left Reno about 9:30 this morning and stopped in Winnemucca for lunch at The Pig. Then we drove through part of Oregon, then Idaho, then back into Oregon. We’ve stopped for the day in Ontario, OR and are staying at the Ontario Inn. It’s not luxurious but a step up from Motel 6 and it has all the amenities we need for one night! We drove about 425 miles today and much of it was pretty smoky because of the forest fires but it seems to be getting clearer. Ate dinner at Matsy’s down the road and had steaks (surprise, surprise 😆). Now I need to figure out how to download pictures… wish me luck 🍀 Hey, I think I did it 😂

Days 4 and 5

 We left Sandpoint yesterday morning and hit the Canadian border at Creston a little over an hour later then stopped for breakfast. Just a warning - do NOT eat at Rick’s Iron Kettle Restaurant. Dave and I both ordered a Keto Scramble… first of all, I often order scrambled eggs because I detest runny whites… you guessed it, there was some uncooked egg… but the kicker was they actually had sort of a gray tinge and taste wise, I think whatever they were cooked in was pre used. Nah… I didn’t eat it and just had an apple and some cheese in the truck! Interesting introduction to Canadian cuisine! After that, we drove about 250 miles to Kelowna, British Columbia. Part of the drive was pretty smoky from the wildfire in Jasper National Park but it was clear skies in Kelowna which is a nice mid sized city and we spent the night at a Sheraton. Days 2 and 3

 Well, I guess this isn’t going to be a daily blog as evidenced by my not writing yesterday! 😆 Anyway, we drove from Ontario, OR to Sandpoint, ID - about 440 miles. We were pretty tired so got a room for 2 nights (Cedar Street Hotel) so we could relax today. Sandpoint is lovely and is on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced “ponderay”), which is the largest lake in the state of Idaho. Had a leisurely day walking to breakfast, a little shopping then I spent some time on the beach. On the way back, I stopped at a cute little bookstore I couldn’t resist. Had dinner tonight outside at The Fat Pig restaurant (do I sense a theme?!)
